Madam,

I am the mother of a young man with Type 1 Diabetes. On 26 January I had all my hair cut off to raise money for Diabetes UK Cymru and to raise awareness of what life is like with Diabetes, a condition that affects so many of us.

Thanks to the brilliant coverage of our ‘Brave the Shave’ event in our local papers, and the generous support of people all over the area, the money has poured in, and is continuing to do so.

My original goal was to raise £1,000. I am astounded to be able to report that to date we have raised over six times this amount!

I would like to put on record my thanks to everyone who has helped with this project, the local press, hairdresser Pamela Atterbury, the Coopers Arms, photographer Barry Adams, Backtrax for providing the music, my employers and colleagues, Scott Williams for donating his rugby boots and last but not least my son Tristan and my husband Meirion.

Yours etc, Yvonne Lloyd, Maes Marlog, Newcastle Emlyn.
