A NEW book exploring the rich history of Trawsfynydd’s famous son has been released.

The new release, called I Wyneb y Ddrycin, tells the story of Hedd Wyn, his family on the farm called Yr Ysgwrn and the rural community as they live in the shadow of the First World War.

Award-winning author Haf Llewelyn was raised in Ardudwy but has settled in Llanuwchllyn for over 30 years.

She has decided to tackle the Hedd Wyn story on the centenary of his passing in the Battle of Passchendaele in Belgium.

A spokesperson for Barddas Publications said: “As it is now a century since the death of one of Wales’ most famous poets, this book is a valuable record of how the family managed to keep the memory of Hedd Wyn, the poet of the Black Chair, alive in the heart of the nation.”

An evening was held to launch the book at The Eagles Inn, Llanuwchllyn, recently in the company of Haf Llewelyn and members of Aelwyd Penllyn, Joseff Owen, Osian Williams and sister Branwen Williams.

Representatives of Yr Ysgwrn were also present to discuss the latest developments at the farm.
