AS ABERYSTWYTH Town prepare to kick off the 2018/19 season in Park Avenue tonight against Llandudno, we’ve taken a look back in the archives to when Wales and Everton’s most-capped player, Neville Southall, stood between the sticks for the Seasiders.

Big Nev drew an impressive crowd in 1998 as Aber took on Telford at Park Avenue.

He was kept busy on the night as ’money-bags’ Aberystwyth Town succumbed to a 2-1 loss.

Not one to just settle for a stint in goal, Southall also spent time in the heart of defence and as a playmaker in midfield.

The match report in the Cambrian News, dated 13 August 1998 ended "It was carnival time at Park Avenue although Meirion Appleton will be all too aware of the hard work ahead."

Aberystwyth Town will take on Neville Southall’s hometown Llandudno Town tonight at Park Avenue. Kick off at 7.45pm.
