THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised for several good causes following the tragic death of a Tywyn teenager last year.

Elisha Carter, 17, died in October last year after a brave six-month battle with cancer - a death that shook her home town and devastated her family.

Following her passing, a fund was set up in Elisha’s name to donate money to causes close to the teenager’s heart.

Last week Elisha’s family headed to the children’s hospital in Liverpool where the much-missed teenager was treated.

“[On Thursday] we went to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital to deliver two cheques from Elisha’s Fund. One for £5,000 for the Alder Hey Charity and one for £1,000 specifically for the Arts for Health programme which Elisha loved participating in,” said Emma Furneaux, Elisha’s mother.

“In total, between the generous donations made to Elisha’s Fund and donations made at her funeral, over £10,000 has been raised by our amazing community.

“As well as the above, donations have been made to CLIC Sargent, Teenage Cancer Trust, Barbara Bus Gwynedd, the Oncology Ward at Alder Hey, the Little Princess Trust and Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn’s defibrillator fund.”

She added: “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who has supported us through the worst time of our lives.”
