AFTER a successful summer which saw Glesni and Monty bring three healthy osprey chicks into the world, all is quiet at the Dyfi Osprey Project.
The Cambrian News has been closely following the lives of the osprey family at the centre, which is located at the Cors Dyfi Nature Reserve on the A487 between Aberystwyth and Machynlleth, since Monty and Glesni, the two ruling adult ospreys, returned on 1 April.
And after all three chicks, Aeron, Menai and Eitha, survived the most dangerous period in their life, all five ospreys have now flown the nest to warmer climes for the winter months.
“He flew down across the marsh and disappeared out of sight, leaving our screens until next spring,” said Emyr Evans, Dyfi Osprey Project manager, describing Monty’s final moments of the season on the Dyfi.
“This year was Monty’s seventh season as the resident breeding male on the Dyfi, and it has to go down as one of his most successful years to date.
“Arriving shortly after Glesni on 1 April, he has yet again defended this highly sought-after territory on the Dyfi, whilst protecting and providing for his growing family.
“Monty and Glesni managed to raise three healthy chicks this year, bringing his grand total of chicks migrating from the Dyfi to 15.”
