Thumbs up to Geneu’r Glyn Community Council committee who, at their meeting on Monday 24 February, agreed to write to the county council requesting a reduced speed limit for the village of Dôl-y-bont to 20mph.
This speed limit of 20mph is what villagers would like and was suggested by county councillor Ray Quant as appropriate. He also explained that the previous requests had been rejected by a former officer of the county council because he thought that it was not possible to drive at 60mph in the village.
The main concerns most if not all of the residents and pedestrian visitors of Dôl-y-bont is not that of speed trials through the village but the speeds of around 30, 40 and 50mph which some people drive through the village during their normal daily activities.
Lets hope that the current officers of the county council take heed of the request from Geneu’r Glyn Community Council Committee, which Cllr Quant suggested would cost £2,000 to £3,000. This valuation for such a long-term safety application seems quite nominal as it is about the same that each household pays in council tax each year.
