SATURDAY night revellers will be able to gain entry to a party in Aberystwyth in exchange for bringing an electrical item to be recycled.

Following last year’s successful parties in Scotland, Make Noise returns to Wales in 2016 for dates in Carmarthen, Newport, Cardiff, Pontypridd and Aberystwyth.

The Make Noise manifesto remains the same: programming cutting edge electronic music events and making entry 100 per cent free in exchange for a piece of electrical recycling.

Partygoers just need to bring something to hand over at the door; a broken mobile phone, hairdryer or laptop - anything with a plug or a battery!

Since it began, Make Noise has packed out venues all around the UK and recycled tonnes of electronic waste.

The Ceredigion event takes place in Rummers Wine Bar in Aberystwyth on Saturday, starting at 8pm. All attendees must bring along an electronic item for recycling to gain entry - an old laptop, a broken phone or anything with a plug or a battery.

Cllr Alun Williams, Cabinet member for environmental services, said: “I’m really pleased this innovative event is coming to Aberystwyth and grateful to Rummers for hosting it. The council is focused on increasing the number of used electrical items that are recycled in Ceredigion, and this is a fantastic way to raise awareness. So bring your old iron, CD player, mixer, broken phone or any other used electrical item with you on 12 November and enjoy some cutting edge electronic music for free.”

All the events are due to a local authority regional Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment recycling contract that ERP UK deliver for nine Welsh local authorities, including Ceredigion County Council.

This contract is part of a collaborative arrangement under the South Wales Waste Management Group co-ordinated by Resource Efficiency Wales Ltd.

James Kay, the regional co-ordinator, said: “This is a great way to engage with young persons about the importance of recycling small electrical items. So many of these items end up lost in the black bin from the household. So take a look at the back of your wardrobe for that broken hairdryer, in the garden shed for that tired power tool or in the kitchen cupboards for that decrepit sandwich toaster and bring them along to get free entry into the Make Noise 2016 Cymru Tour locations.”
