Madam,

The letter Jean Miles writes, from Harlech, (‘What are people meant to do if there are no toilets?’) must resound fully throughout this area.

Four public conveniences in Tywyn were closed/demolished and nothing done about that situation since, despite much discussion and pleas.

At that time Mr Williams from Gwynedd Council addressed a meeting of The Older Folks Forum, in Tywyn, and told us flatly that nothing would be done as there was no council cash available. I understood appeals were made for private investment to aid the lack of public funding, but evidently nothing has been forthcoming.

At that meeting several older folk said they would be unwilling to go out; handicapped members present asked what any of us were supposed to do, as dodging into bushes and keeping a keen eye out for laybys was no solution - undignified and wholly inappropriate for older folk and the 21st century!

Mr Williams suggested that we ask in business premises and shops for use of their facilities.

This is highly unsatisfactory because it immediately puts the person asking under obligation for a need not a want and does not address the situation or quandary.

So, back full circle to the letter written by Jean Miles.

I, personally, felt for both the campers, who were in an invidious position, and those visiting the sand-dunes following and finding it anything but an uplifting experience.

We are enjoying wondrous summer weather, just now. Chances are visitors will flock to our area. Also, high season is almost upon us. What is going to happen to alter the grievances aired, bring about a more satisfactory state of affairs or even squarely address all the issues raised?

Yours etc,

Jill Baxter, Abergynolwyn.
