A LLANDRE woman was part of a group which scooped this year’s prestigious Turner Prize.

Former Penweddig school pupil Amy Perkins shared in the award as part of Assemble - an architect group.

The group won Britain’s leading contemporary art award for a regeneration scheme for derelict houses in Toxteth in Liverpool.

Amy was a pupil at Penweddig until 2004 and studied architecture at Queens College, Cambridge.

Assemble’s win is the first time the Turner Prize has been won by a collective since its inception in 1984.

Judge Alistair Hudson said the London-based group were “part of a long tradition of art working in society” and deserved the £25,000 prize for overhauling houses in the area. The prize was announced in Glasgow.
