FAMOUS faces from Ceredigion and Gwynedd are hoping to be cream of the crop by winning a televised cookery show.

The popular Welsh celebrity cookery series, Pryd o Sêr, has returned to S4C this week with a plateful of famous Welsh stars - including some familiar local faces - all hoping not to bite off more than they can chew in the kitchen.

The eight celebrities, who hope to cook up a storm in the kitchen, include three actors, two from the sporting world, two singers and one model. That model is Jess Davies.

One of the UK’s top glamour models, Jess, from Aberystwyth, has modelled in popular men’s magazines including Nuts, Zoo, FHM and Loaded.

A former pupil at Ysgol Penglais, Aberystwyth, Jess has also completed a degree in Sociology at the University of South Wales. Recently, Jess starred in a documentary about her life, Jess y Model a Tudalen 3, shown on S4C over the summer.

Will the glamour model be able to stand the heat of the kitchen?

Speaking ahead of the show, she said: “I like to have at least half an hour to do my hair and make-up.

“I don’t think I’m a diva, but under pressure maybe I’m wrong, and maybe I am a bit of a diva.

“I don’t eat ducks or rabbits because they’re pets!”

Also getting a taste of being a chef will be musician John Jones.

John is part of the famous Welsh country music duo, John ac Alun; together they’ve produced well-known Welsh songs including Chwarelwr.

The duo also has a radio show on BBC Radio Cymru every Sunday night, which includes country music and plenty of witty chat. John lives in Tudweiliog on the Llyn Peninsula, where he was brought up.

John’s daughter, Mari, said of her father: “He’s quite experimental in the kitchen. He throws a lot of things into the pan, but somehow the food comes out okay! He’s a good team member.”

John added: “I hope to learn stuff on there.”

The celebrities received training from some of the best chefs in Wales; Aled Williams, a head chef at Michelin starred Northcote Restaurant, Lancashire; and Mark Threadgill, head chef at Portmeirion.

Pryd o Sêr continues on Sundays at 8pm and Tuesdays at 3pm on S4C (with English subtitles), and is also available on catch-up.
