FOR the first two weeks in August, Newcastle Emlyn transforms itself into what is possibly the biggest art gallery in Wales.
Over 30 businesses have teamed up with local artists to showcase their work in shop windows throughout the town to create a vibrant and colourful environment.
The idea for this originally came last year from Rhian Davies, owner of Siop Gelf Y Wiber Art Shop, as she explained.
“Newcastle Emlyn has so much to offer. We want to attract more visitors into the town.
“The festival creates a lively atmosphere and gives the visitor a special experience.
“Every local business has the opportunity to take part. The displays take people all across town, not just to one area as you would get if you were to put on an exhibition.”
Newcastle Emlyn is a Fair Trade town. It is home to many independent shops, pubs, cafés, hairdressers and other businesses.
Hawys Evans, owner of new clothes shop Bwtic, has teamed up with Adpar landscape artist Andrew Francis and will be displaying his work in the storefront.
“It’s important that as a town we showcase local artists’ work and show our support. I’m delighted to have this opportunity to do so,” said Hawys.
Andrew added: “With great works of art and craft in shop windows throughout the town, you can shop and see the work of local artists at the same time.”
