TWO south Ceredigion town councils have had their objections to parking changes overruled by the county council as the authority pushes ahead with over 150 on-street parking regulations changes.

Ceredigion County Council presented a list of 157 changes to county roads to its Cabinet meeting on Tuesday - asking members to authorise advertisement of all the changes to “improve road safety, ensure the free flow of traffic on the public highway, and improve amenity".

The council said it is “undertaking changes at multiple locations to existing on-street parking restrictions on county roads, and acting on behalf of the Welsh Government in relation to parking restrictions on trunk roads within Ceredigion".

“Proposals have been developed in consultation with local members; consultation on the proposed changes and on the consolidation of existing restrictions has now been completed with the emergency services, town/community councils, and road user groups,” the council said - but it has not accepted any of the objections lodged by local community councillors.

In Llandysul, the town council objected to a proposed alteration of time limit on waiting bays on the high street, but the council said it is “recommended that this objection be overruled on the grounds that the current limit of one hour does not provide adequate time to access trading premises on the high street, and that this proposal arose from a well-attended public meeting in 2017”.

New Quay Town Council objected to the consolidation of an existing 10am to 6pm prohibition of parking (single yellow line) on Water Street.

The town council wanted double yellow lines to prevent parking at any time, but Ceredigion council recommended that this objection be overruled “since there is no compelling reason for delaying progress with the present round of changes by beginning consultation on the requested change at this stage”.
