Traffic lights on the outskirts of Bow Street will be removed in the coming weeks as work progresses on the new village railway station.

The traffic lights on the A487, near the railway station building site, have been in place for most of the year, but local county councillor Paul Hinge said this week that they will be removed in ‘early-ish’ December as work progresses.

Cllr Hinge also revealed that the station will be open and operational in early 2021.

Cllr Hinge said: “Work is on time and the traffic lights will be removed in early-ish December.

“The station itself will be open and operational early next year.”

In a meeting with contractors, Alun Griffiths and Transport for Wales, Cllr Hinge has also asked for something to be done with a large patch of grassland left after the junction with the A4159 was repointed.

“There is a big patch of land left between the cycle path and the road now the new junction has been built," he said.

“It had to remain as underground lies the internet connection for all of Bow Street and north Ceredigion.

“I have asked Transport for Wales to look into planting some wild flowers on the patch of land and installing a couple of benches.”

Construction work on the £8 million project began in November last year and was originally due to be completed this summer.

However work on the site was suspended when the coronavirus crisis hit, but resumed with a smaller workforce on 4 May.
