Dementia

JOAN Yates welcomed members to the July meeting of the WI held in the Neuadd in Llan Ffestiniog.Birthdays were acknowledged with song and cards. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and it was pointed out that the taster evening was a resounding success. Members had enjoyed sampling dishes from savoury to sweet.Joan read the newsletter and brought to our attention forth-coming events. The August trip is an afternoon visit to gardens near Llanbedr.A memorial concert is to be held for Audrey Jones in October.Emma Quaeck was introduced. Emma is working with carers of dementia, helping to raise awareness and support so that they have a positive approach. To help us understand more about the condition we played a game which involved the symptoms and the inaccurate assumptions people have of dementia.Emma stressed that people can live happily with the problem, but that more positivity is needed. So she encouraged all of us to become a dementia friend. We all readily agreed.Moragh Bradshaw thanked Emma for her enlightening and informative talk and also Peggy Preston and Sheila Jones who provided the refreshments.Next meeting on 12 July when Denise Davingoff will be talk-ing about the Witness Service.
