ON WEDNESDAY, 10 February, Jacqueline Jeynes of Pencoed Textiles showed members of the WI just what could be done to make crochet work more decorative. Her remit was creative crocheting and she not only inspired those who could already crochet but took the time to instruct members who had never crocheted before. Members said they had a really interesting hands-on evening. The competition for a crocheted item either made or bought was won by Lyn Gealy who had made a beautiful tablecloth. The vote of thanks was given by Marian Davies to the hostesses, led by Rhyswen Jones, and to Bronwen Williams for donating the raffle prize that was won by Gay Evans. The next meeting, on Wednesday, 9 March at 7pm, will be a cawl evening. Clwb CinioTHE lunch on Wednesday, 24 February was at the Bowls Club and attended by 52 members, who enjoyed an excellent meal and very good service.Ifan Gruffydd Jones entertained everyone with his humour and stories of his early life. The next lunch will be on Wednesday, 23 March in Y Talbot.

NOS FAWRTH, 23 Chwefror cynhaliwyd noson i ddathlu Gwyl Ddewi y Gymdeithas. Estynnwyd croeso i bawb gan lywydd y nos, sef Dilys Jones, Y Border Bach ac offrymwyd gras gan y Parch Carwyn Arthur. Yn dilyn gwledd flasus o gawl, tarten afalau a chage bach, cyflwynwyd a chroesawyd ein gwr gwadd, sef Gwynne Jones a’i briod Joan o Lanafan, ynghyd â’i gyfeilydd Gwyneth Davies. Dywedodd Dilys fod Gwynne yn adnabyddus ym myd y canu, yn cystadlu mewn eisteddfodau ac yn enillydd cenedlaethol. Pwysleisiodd fel y mae bob amser yn cefnogi’r eisteddfodau bach, ac mae’n hynny’n hanfodol bwysig. Mwynhawyd noson arbennig yn ei gwmni yn canu emynau ac amrywiaeth o ganeuon, a chafwyd ambell stori ddifyr gyda’r gynullei-dfa yn chwerthin yn iach.Cyn mynd at y diolchiadau, canwyd penblwydd hapus i Glyn Lewis, is-lywydd y Gymdeithas. Talwyd y diolchiadau gan Gareth Jones, gan ddiolch yn gyntaf i Gwynne a Gwyneth am noson safonol, gyda chanu arbennig. Walking club
THE NEXT walk is scheduled for 12 March and is called the Tregaron Circular, led by Aled and Teleri Garner (01974 298734). A pleasant circular walk starting at Y Talbot, Tregaron Square, it crosses the Rivers Brenig and Teifi at two different points and an old railway bridge on Gipsy Lane. Walkers are almost certain to see red kites and if lucky a heron on the banks of the Teifi. The walk is a grade A easy walk which should last approximately two and a half hours and is over a distance of four miles.The meeting point is at 10am outside Y Talbot.
British Legion Ladies Section
AT THE monthly meeting in November, chairman Ann Jones welcomed everyone. The exhortation was read in English and Welsh and a silent tribute observed.The chairman thanked everyone who was involved with the Remembrance Sunday arrangements, to Elizabeth Cameron for laying the wreath, Kathleen Edwards for the reading and to all members who gave their time for the Poppy collection.The speakers for the evening were Sally Davies and family from Garthenor Organic Pure Wool, Llanio, near Tregaron. Her son gave a talk on how their business was formed. Their yarns were the first 100 per-cent pure wool knitting yarns pro-duced to the Soil Association and Global Organic Textiles Standards. All of their products are produced from traditional and rare breeds of British sheep which are fully certified to UK Organic Standard. All the wool are neither dyed nor bleached. They brought with them some examples of different items, such as cushions, soft toys, blankets and socks.The vote of thanks was given by Lyn Gealy. The hostesses were Dorothy Morgan, Bet Jones and Ann Davies. The raffle given by Anne Lloyd was won by Bet Jones.The Christmas dinner was held on the afternoon of 11 December at Sgubor Teile, organised by Pat Jones and Kathleen Edwards and attended by 22 members. Grace was said by Elizabeth Cameron and the vote of thanks was given by Margaret Evans. The monthly raffle was given by Bet Jones and won by Ann Jones.
