TRIBUTES have been paid following the death of two Aberystwyth University students.
Abbi Andreou, 23, a second year business school student, and 21-year-old Gwydion Morris, a second year student in the department of computer science, have both died in the last two weeks, university bosses have confirmed.
Staff and students at the university have this week been informed about the sad deaths.
Tributes have been paid to both the students and a university spokesperson told the Cambrian News that support is being provided for both students and staff.
The spokesperson said: “It is with great sadness that the university has reported the deaths of two of its students - Abbi Andreou and Gwydion Morris.
“The university is providing support for students and staff who are affected by these very sad turn of events and our thoughts are with Abbi and Gwydion’s families and friends at this saddest of times.”
Professor Andrew Thomas, the Head of Aberystwyth Business School, paid tribute to Abbi.
He said: “Abbi was an extremely popular student who was known with great affection by staff and students in the school and by many others throughout the university.
“She was a talented student who contributed fully to university life and will be greatly missed.
“Our thoughts are with her family and her friends at this difficult time.”
Paying tribute to Gwydion, of Deinolen in Gwynedd, Dr Thomas Jansen, the Head of Department of Computer Science, said: “We are greatly saddened by the death of Gwydion Morris, a second year student in the Department of Computer Science.
“Gwydion joined us in 2017 and successfully completed his foundation year and the first year of his undergraduate degree course, a reflection of his dedication and interest for the subject.
“The loss of Gwydion at this time of his life is most keenly felt, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends.”
Gwydion’s body was found in a stationary vehicle in a layby near Clarach at around 1pm on Wednesday, 26 February.
An inquest was opened on 2 March and authorities said they are not treating the circumstances of his death as suspicious.
Abbi, from Cilgerran, died on 2 March at Bronglais Hospital, Aberystwyth.
An inquest into her death opened on 5 March.
