Tributes have been paid to an Aberdyfi stalwart who died earlier this year.

Cllr Morgan Vaughan MBE, who as well as representing the Aberdyfi ward for several years, also headed the Tywyn and District Memorial Hospital Appeal Fund, died in October at the age of 91.

Cllr Anne Lloyd Jones described him as a “man of honour who dedicated his life to public service” in the Tywyn and Aberdyfi area.

“He was an excellent representative who worked hard for his area and Wales for many years, and the community of south Meirionnydd has lost an avid supporter.

“We are thinking of his family following their loss.”

The tributes to Cllr Vaughan and Cllr Charles Wyn Jones, another former councillor who died earlier this year, were made ahead of Thursday's full council meeting.

Both men’s dedication to public service is to be publicly acknowledged by Gwynedd Council.

Cllr Selwyn Griffiths went on to pay tribute to Cllr Charles Wyn Jones who died while a serving councillor for Llanrug since the council’s formation in 1995.

Cllr Jones, who died in early November after a period of ill health, was described by Cllr Griffiths as “a proud Welshman and true friend.”

“It’s without doubt that he was a man of Llanrug who served his area with distinction, ensuring that residents got the best out of Gwynedd Council,” said Cllr Griffiths.

“Charles was a gentleman and a second to none talker, he was a Welshman to the core and the language was so important to him.

“He battled hard to ensure that the Welsh language was given due prominence during his time on the police authority but his family was so important to him.”
