Criccieth RNLI has paid tribute to two former volunteers who have died.

Dr Tudor Jones and Ronnie Povey both served the branch for many years in different capacities.

Until earlier this year, Dr Tudor Jones was chairman of the station. He retired in June and was awarded with a Certificate of Long Service.

Criccieth RNLI paid tribute to him following his death on Saturday, 23 November, saying: “At a memorial service held at Capel y Traeth, Criccieth, this afternoon, members of the crew and station officials joined members of the wider community in commemorating the life of Dr Tudor Jones.

“Dr Tudor Jones had served the local community as a GP for over 30 years and provided the station with his excellence as medical officer since the 1960s.

“In addition, the station was honoured to have had Dr Tudor Jones act as chairman between 1984 and 2019. During his tenure, he was awarded a Gold Badge and Bar by the RNLI. Thank you Dr Tudor Jones, we will miss you greatly.”

Mr Povey, who died on Thursday, 28 November, joined the RNLI in the 1950s.

After his years of service he was a regular visitor to the lifeboat station.

A Criccieth RNLI spokesperson said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of another member of the Criccieth lifeboat family. Ronnie Povey was a dedicated crew member from the mid 1950s until 1969 and maintained in regular contact with station following his years of service, often coming to watch the crew launch and sharing his stories and experience.

“Our thoughts are with Ronnie’s family.”

The station’s flag was lowered to half-mast as a mark of respect for both men.
