TRIBUTES have been paid to a 24-year-old Bangor University student who tragically died after getting into difficulty in a river near Beddgelert.

Tom Lloyd (seen right), from Whittington in Staffordshire, had been kayaking with his friends when he got into difficulty in the Aberglaslyn Pass on the afternoon of Tuesday, 27 September.

North Wales Police, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Welsh Ambulance Service and the Aberglaslyn and Ogwen Valley mountain rescue teams were alerted to his disappearance just after 3pm.

His body was located and recovered from the water the following morning.

Bangor University has paid tribute to the “well-liked” student who was entering his third year there.

A spokesperson for the university said: “Staff and students at Bangor University are saddened to hear of the death of Tom Lloyd. Tom was a very well-liked student who was entering the third year of a degree in Environmental Management.

“An experienced outdoor pursuit’s enthusiast, he had just spent the summer in Norway working as a kayak instructor, as well as carrying out field research as part of his studies.

“He will be sadly missed by all his friends at Bangor and our thoughts are with them and his family.”

A fundraising page has been set up online to raise £2,000 to help set up a memorial to honour him.
