A POPULAR Tremadog chef, who passed away suddenly as he was cycling to work, has been described by his devastated mother as “the best son in the world”.

Married father-of-two, Kristian Ley Roberts, died last Saturday morning on the A487 between Minffordd and Penrhyndeudraeth as he was on his way to work at the Portmeirion Hotel.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene at 6.30am but sadly the 38-year-old passed away.

North West Wales senior coroner, Dewi Pritchard, is now carrying out an investigation into the cause of his death.

His mother, Gaynor Roberts, also of Tremadog, said Kristian’s death has left his family devastated.

She said: “We were informed by the police on Saturday morning that Kristian had died and I just couldn’t believe it when they told me. I thought it couldn’t have been my son they were talking about, I was in complete shock.”

The former Ysgol Eifionydd pupil, who worked as the head pastry chef in the Italian village in Minffordd, lived with his wife, Erica, and their two young children, six-year-old Intiquiney and two-year-old Merniley.

His grieving mother told the Cambrian News that her beloved son was truly dedicated to his family and doted on his two children.

She said: “Kristian was the best, the very best. No-one ever had a bad word to say about him.

“He lived for his little family and any time he had off from work he would spend it with them.
