TRIBUTES have been paid to the postmaster of St Dogmaels who died suddenly last week.

Jonathan Wiltshire, who was thought to be in his 40s, had taken over the running of the village post office following the death of his mother, Yvonne, in January 2014.

A well-known and extremely active member of the community he was also a milkman, a member of the Moylegrove coastguard and the driving force behind behind the St Dogmaels/Llandudoch Community Rowing Club.

It is understood Mr Wiltshire died after being taken ill at the Newport dairy where he worked mornings.

A post on the Moylegrove Coastguard page read: “It’s with great sadness we acknowledge the untimely death of our friend and much-valued team member Jonathan Wiltshire.

“’Worthers Jon’ was a committed coastguard who carried out his duties with enthusiasm, professionalism and pride, attending training and call-outs at every opportunity.

“He gave his time generously, together with his wealth of knowledge on a wide range of subjects.

“With his genuine warmth and good humour, he quickly integrated himself into the team, and despite only being with us for a few short years will leave a large space that will be difficult to fill.

“The local community has lost a big personality and Jon will be sorely missed by his ‘skipper’ and teammates. Sleep well mate!”
