A Lampeter bone marrow donor who helped save the life of a Canadian cancer patient is being flown out for a two-week sightseeing tour of the Rocky Mountains by his grateful recipient.

Emyr Williams, a 52-year-old retired carpenter, struck up a remarkable transatlantic friendship with Milton Becker, a cancer-stricken family man from Alberta.

Two years on, a cancer-free Mr Becker is flying Emyr out to Alberta in August for a once-in-a-lifetime holiday – and Emyr’s wife, Rhian, and daughter Elain are coming too!

“Milton’s flying me, my wife and daughter out to Edmonton to meet him, his family and friends,” a delighted Emyr told the Cambrian News.

“We’re going sightseeing in the Rocky Mountains, to his church and to the hospital which looked after him, as they all want to meet me.

“I think it will an emotional trip but satisfying!

“I was a bit overwhelmed by the gesture but absolutely thrilled at the thought of meeting Milton, his wife, family and friends - we all can’t wait!”
