Madam,

Congratulations to Cambrian News staff reporter, Alex Jones, for last week’s touching article “Young footballers’ trip of a lifetime under threat”. It has become the talk of the town. Everyone is behind them and their coach, Ben Ogilvy. Hopefully, Pwllheli’s under-14s soccer squad will soon overcome the disappointment of being so badly let down by the flight company and will continue their plans to fulfil their dreams of representing our town, in the two-day summer soccer tournament in Eindhoven, Netherlands.

Ideally, part of the £1,000 over-budget could be found in the swollen coffers of Pwllheli Town Council’s mayoral contingency fund. Thanks to the avoidance of costly public elections of town councillors over the last few decades our civic leaders should have built up a substantial treasure chest. Now is the time for the mayor and his team to get off the bench and make a grand gesture.
