NATURAL Resources Wales has said it will remove trolleys from the river Rheidol as part of “routine maintenance work” after complaints by residents.
The Cambrian News last week told how residents were complaining that a number of trollies from nearby supermarkets had been left dumped and abandoned in the river Rheidol for several weeks.
Resident Karl Drinkwater lodged a formal complaint to Ceredigion County Council and Natural Resources Wales after being told by both bodies that they are “not responsible” for the removal of the “multiple” trolleys from the river which he said are “an environmental problem, a wildlife issue, a litter problem, and a possible safety issue”.
Now, following the complaints, Natural Resources Wales have said they will remove the trolleys.
Phil Pickersgill, flood risk manager at Natural Resources Wales, told the Cambrian News:“Our flood risk management staff are scheduled to carry out routine maintenance work in the Aberystwyth area, so they will remove the trolley from the river, and any others in the immediate area."
