A trust set up nearly 100 years ago to remember the fallen in the Great War has handed out £10,000 worth of grants to local good causes.
Every year, the Aberystwyth War Memorial Trust provides grants for youth organisations or individuals in the area. This year there is a total of 22 recipients benefitting from the £10,000.
Penparcau Youth, Penrhyncoch Youth, Ceredigion Girl Guides and a new Aberystwyth Boys’ Brigade were amongst the groups who benefited from the grants.
A scheme run by a member of the history department in Aberystwyth University has also received significant funding. The scheme hopes to harnesses young people and increase their awareness of VE Day in May 2020.
On Saturday, 14 December, the Trust invited trustees and grantees to a ceremony dedicated to presenting the cheques.
The annual ceremony and cheque presentation only started three years ago. The trust’s secretary and treasurer, Anthony Evans, told the Cambrian News that the ceremony provides grantees the chance to explain how they will use the grant.
It also provides the trustees the opportunity to talk to those who are involved in the youth organisations.
