THE first-ever tug of war tournament held in the Square Field was deemed a great success.

The event, which was organised by the Aberaeron Town Improvements Committee in conjunction with Wales YFC’s Tug of War Association, raised a good sum towards the purchase of a new vehicle for the town’s first responders.

The teams, many of whom had travelled a great distance, enjoyed almost perfect conditions and revelled in the competition, with the Llanboidy men winning in both their weight categories, with Shirenewton a close second.

Trecastle also did very well by winning both ladies’ classes as well as the junior class.

The results were: Men’s 680kg: 1, Llanboidy; 2, Shirenewton. Ladies’ 580kg: 1, Trecastle; 2, Penhow. Juniors: 1, Trecastle; 2, Llanwenog. Men’s 640kg: 1, Llanboidy; 2, Shirenewton. Ladies’ 560kg: 1, Trecastle; 2, Pentre.
