Madam,
We read in the Cambrian News that Ceredigion County Council has still failed to find a suitable development plan for the former Arriva depot in Aberystwyth, after ruling that the proposals so far put forward were “not acceptable”.
The council is presumably looking for a scheme which fits with its ‘Well-Being and Improvement’ aims for Aberystwyth.
May we suggest something that would provide healthy exercise and entertainment for both locals and visitors; that would cater not just for oldies or youngsters but for a wide range of age-groups; that would make an enjoyable activity available in all weather conditions; that would be popular for birthday or other anniversary parties, and family get-togethers; that would bring people into town for an evening’s entertainment when there are few other options in Aberystwyth.
In other words, what about a skittles alley? Or, rather, what about a suite of alleys?
We are aware of an existing facility at the top of Constitution Hill. But Aberystwyth needs something easily accessible in the town centre, within close range of public transport, and even – what a luxury! – with its own car park, an amenity that would be possible on the Arriva Depot site. Depending on the space available, other games facilities could be offered in the area. An on-site café/restaurant upstairs could provide rest and refreshment for players (and bring in further revenue for the provider).
We cannot think of any other attraction that would fulfil the council’s ‘Well-Being and Improvement’ objectives so optimally, and would urge your readers to support the development of this modest proposal in any way they can.
