Garden Club
THE chairman, Margaret Evans, welcomed everyone to the meeting held in Tywyn Baptist Church on Tuesday, 12 January. A number of members had apologised for not attending. Susanne Yeomans, the secretary, an-nounced that she needed payment and menu choices to be made that night, for our annual meal to be held at the Proper Gander on 31 January. Members were also asked to choose from the menu and give in names for the Meirioneth Horticultural AGM and lunch to be held in the Red Lion at Dinas Mawddwy on 13 February. She also asked members for ideas on gardens and places to visit during spring and summer this year. Margaret then introduced member Katie Pearce who was the speaker for the evening. Katie had put together an interesting and informative talk with slides on how to manage our gardens using eco-friendly garden solutions. She had a number of books and lots of good ideas. The big black slug is the biggest problem, but even they can be gotten rid of by eco-friendly beer wells buried in the soil. The vote of thanks was given by Janet Handcock. The owner of the lucky door entry number was Doreen Edwards. The next meeting will be held in Tywyn Baptist Church on Tuesday, 9 February at 7.30pm. Quentin Deakin will give a talk on gardening by the sea — making it work.
