Inner Wheel Club
THE CLUB met at Aberdyfi Golf Club on Thursday, 10 March.
President Chris Lewis welcomed everyone present and wished members that were poorly a speedy recovery.
Following a delicious meal, the speaker was Anne Phipps who gave us an insight into staying at the Ice Hotel in Karina in Sweden’s Lapland. It had been her husband’s wish to stay there for a special birthday in 2007. The hotel is built by a variety of artists every year and melts into the river in spring. It consists of 50 rooms, a church and a bar. Anne explained how they had slept under reindeer skins and undertaken rides with, huskies, reindeers and a snow mobile. President Chris presented Anne with a donation for Save the Children.This month, donations were given to a Parkinson’s charity, Action on Hearing Loss and Literacy in a Box.

THE TYWYN and Aberdyfi branch of the Royal Air Forces Association held their annual St David’s Day dinner on Tuesday, 1 March in the Peniarth Inn, Bryncrug. The loyal toast to the Queen was proposed by the president, Robin Clark and the traditional toast to Dewi Sant was proposed by the chairman, John Williams. The Dedication of the Association was spoken in both English and Welsh.
In his address, the chairman referred to the long history of the branch and commented that the branch had celebrated St David’s Day with a formal dinner for more than 30 years. The branch’s first new member for 2016 was also welcomed to the occasion.
The members then enjoyed an excellent meal.
