A CHARITY group which started with £12 and ended up donating thousands to local causes is to disband.

The Angel Light Independent Group in Tywyn is set to close after several years of fund-raisers and events as organiser Irene Hale moves back to the Midlands.

The spiritualist group, which operated out of the town’s Scout Hut, started in co-founder Carole Roger’s lounge in 2011 and has worked hard in the community in the time since.

Over the six and half years, Angel Light has donated to charities including Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Baby Noah’s fund, the Toby Edwards Memorial Fund, McMillan Nurses, Cadwain school, Elisha’s Fund and many others.

Additionally, at Harvest time the group has given out food parcels to senior citizens who live by themselves, and also did the same at Christmas time.

The group’s remaining cash will be divided between local health charities, the Wales Air Ambulance and an animal rescue organisation.

Irene Hale was pleased with her accomplishments over recent years.

She said: “Saturday night [8 July] was our last charity night and for Angel Light.

“A big thank you to Tywyn’s own local band Revival, who do a lot of work for charity and ask for nothing. Catherine John from Cancer Research came to receive a cheque for £250 and a representative from MIND received £631 on the night.

“Angel Light have donated almost £5,000 in six and half years to charities – a big thank you to all who have supported us over the years.”
