The coronavirus pandemic resulting in being confined to our homes gives us time for so much food for thought, on not only local but worldwide considerations - especially the world we will enter after ‘lockdown’.
Those brought up during and post-Second World War, listening to enemy planes overhead and being aware of the bombing of our Welsh cities, we all then realised the value of a United Kingdom. Today there is a huge fear in the hearts of us all for the safety of our families - fear of death, as with the war, which was won by the united effort of the United Kingdom.
The unification of the country would possibly not be remembered by our middle and younger aged residents as with the older generation, which is why I personally believe now is the time to think seriously about the absurdity of any division between our countries making up the United Kingdom by a break up referred to as ‘independence’ - as now more than ever we must realise that our working together is the way forward as never has there been a more appropriate time for the world to act as one.
United we stand and divided we are more likely to fall.
An economic as well as health crisis is looming with billions of pounds to be paid by central government in grant aid to small businesses, the unemployed etc. So none of the UK countries are in a position to financially go it alone with the massive borrowing necessary.
We can now only live in hope that this pandemic will abate by following the guidelines given on keeping safe.
