A GROUP of colleagues from Aberystwyth University are raising money for a leukaemia research charity following the death of one of the institution’s most respected lecturers earlier this year.

Seven members of the international politics department in the university took on the Cambrian News Aberystwyth 10K race on Sunday to raise money in memory of Prof Mike Foley who passed away aged 68 in August after a battle with leukaemia.

His colleagues were joined by two of Prof Foley’s children to take part in the race, with the aim of raising £1,000 for the Bloodwise charity.

Dr Patrick Finney, one of the runners, said: “Mike worked at Aberystwyth University teaching politics and international politics from 1974.

“He was a hugely respected researcher, committed teacher and supportive mentor; he also had a distinguished record of service and leadership in the department and university.

“Mike was also a much-loved husband, father and grandfather. He is greatly missed.”

The team has raised £1,800 for Bloodwise with donations still coming in. To donate to the cause, visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/interpolAber10K.
