Madam,
As a resident of Morfa Bychan I walk the beach several times a week. Whilst taking the opportunity of exercising in such a beautiful location I pick up litter from the beach. There is a variety of litter, countless bags of dog poo, nappies and disposable barbecue trays,(disposed of by leaving on the beach). The first six months of this year I have picked up and removed in excess of 100 bin bags’ worth. As a volunteer I can accept this, but where I draw the line is picking up human excrement and wipes being deposited in the sand dunes. The problem of the excrement has increased in proportion to the rise in overnight camping, and the fact that the toilets are locked overnight. To solve this disgusting situation would mean the expenditure of a considerable amount of money, providing temporary toilets at intervals along the beach, and providing facilities for emptying effluent containers, and more bins to dispose of rubbish during the holiday period. It should be possible to offset some of the cost by charging a premium price for the privilege of overnight camping in such a beautiful location. Or ban all overnight camping by means of a by-law.Something needs to be done urgently on grounds of health and hygiene, and to protect the beautiful asset that we have at Black Rock Sands.Yours etc,
F Faulkner, Cefn-y-Gader, Morfa Bychan, Porthmadog.
