A US airman was spotted flying a Welsh flag from the cockpit of a fighter jet flying over Snowdonia National Park.

The moment was captured on camera by amateur photographer Wayne Lewis as the fighter jet soared above the Snowdonia landscape at 600mph.

He snapped the image, showing the airman in the back seat, the weapons systems officer, showing off the Welsh flag at around 3pm on Monday, 29 July.

The jet, a United States Air Force F15E Strike Eagle based at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, was photographed flying near Dolgellau.

The area is often used by American and RAF jets as a site for low-flying and performing manoeuvres.

Wayne, a teacher from Welshpool, said: “Maybe it’s his first time visiting Wales or maybe he likes to visit Wales? I suspect he’s enjoying the scenery.”
