PEOPLE are being encouraged to make use of their local Beach Clean Box to help keep beaches free of increasing levels of plastic.
Thanks to a £100,000 award from the People’s Postcode Lottery, the environmental campaign group Surfers Against Sewage has launched the boxes, which contain beach-cleaning tools, including buckets, bin bags, gloves, litter-pickers and a shovel, as well as vital scientific monitoring and education materials.
And local SAS representatives, Alan Cookson for Borth and Laura Truelove for Aberystwyth, are encouraging anyone wanting to make use of the boxes to get in touch.
Speaking to the Cambrian News this week, Alan said: “The Beach Clean Box is available for anyone in our communities to use, whether it be a local school or a local individual.

“It is not about surfers or sewage in particular, it is about letting the community know the box is there, and if they want to utilise it, they can.”
