Madam,

Since being elected as an MP in 2015, I‘ve been a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on State Pension Inequality for Women. The objective of the group is to hold the government to account on the issue of transitional arrangements and to campaign on issues around the state pension age.

Many women were caught by surprise when the timetable for moving to a later retirement age was accelerated in 2011. Women born in the 1950s argue they have been hit particularly hard, with significant changes to their State Pension Age imposed with a lack of appropriate notification.

A Pensions Bill has been presented on behalf of the All Party Parliamentary Group on State Pension Inequality for Women (Review of Women’s Arrangements) (No. 2) Bill. The purpose of the Bill is to establish a review of pension arrangements for women affected by changes made by the 1995 and 2011 Pensions Acts and to require the review in particular to undertake costings for a compensation scheme.

The second reading of the Bill will be held on Friday, 27 April 2018. Prior to that, I’m keen to hear from women in Dwyfor Meirionnydd affected by the changes, with the hope of setting up a forum to share experiences and discuss the issue further. Those interested should e-mail me at [email protected] or telephone the office on (01341) 422 661.

Yours etc,

Liz Saville Roberts MP, Dwyfor Meirionnydd.
