Aberporth Village Hall Committee has been named a finalist in the UK Social Enterprise Awards, recognising “businesses which are transforming society.”

The committee-led charity is a finalist in the Transformative Community Business category.

Over the past two years the committee has developed the Heart of the Community project which will redevelop the village hall to become a “warm and welcoming community hub.”

The old hall has been demolished with building work on a new structure set to start after Christmas.

Projects including the community fridge, community garden and a digital club are already running from the charity’s other building Canolfan Dyffryn.

The £1.1m project has attracted funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, the Welsh Government’s Community Facilities Programme plus Ceredigion County Council and Aberporth Community Council.

The UK Social Enterprise Awards run by Social Enterprise UK, the national membership body for social enterprises, recognise the nation’s most pioneering social enterprises.

Aberporth Village Hall will be joining other shortlisted organisations at the prestigious awards ceremony held at London’s iconic Guildhall on 8 December.

Hall committee chairman Mike Harwood said: “The hall committee has worked tremendously hard to make the Heart of the Community project a reality.

“Everything we do is for our community and we are delighted to be recognised in this way.”
