A letter has been sent to parliamentary candidate Liz Saville Roberts asking for help for the village of Fairbourne.

A group of councillors and candidates who are representing the residents of Fairbourne have written to Liz Saville Roberts asking for support following a meeting set up for residents to give feedback on how the Fairbourne: Moving Forward Partnership is addressing the threat of losing their village to rising sea levels.

The meeting, which took place on Tuesday, 29 October, frustrated residents and a letter has been written up by the clerk of Arthog Community Council on behalf of the council and those who oversaw the meeting.

The letter addressed the mood of the meeting and residents’ concerns.

“The main, and most important outcome of the meeting was that it highlighted the deep anxiety, persistent worry, and unhappiness that is felt by many residents in the community,” the letter explains.

“One lady who attended the meeting told of her anxiety morning, noon and night. The feeling of utter hopelessness, not knowing from one day to the next if this was the day, ‘she would be told to leave her home of many years’.”

The letter also outlines the questions the residents of Fairbourne still want answers to, such as where will residents be re-housed and what kind of housing will be available. Fears over families being split up, and who will bear the cost of the move have also been raised.

“Realistically, residents now realise that they will not get an answer as it seems obvious that Gwynedd Council themselves have no solutions to any of these questions which have been repeatedly asked over the past five years or more,” the letter adds.
