Madam,
The decision of the High Court, that the British Government will have to seek the approval of Parliament to begin implementing Brexit, goes wholly against what was written during the EU referendum campaign.
The government’s official information literature, which was distributed to every household across the UK to explain the meaning of the EU referendum, said: “This is your decision. The government will implement what you decide.”
It is therefore difficult to avoid the conclusion that this legal decision by the High Court appears to be an attempt by the pro-EU establishment to seek to water down what the people of these islands voted for on British Independence Day, 23 June.
Nearly 17.5 million people voted to leave the EU, the biggest vote in the UK’s electoral history. Wales also voted decisively for Brexit, with 17 of the 22 Welsh local authorities voting to leave the EU.
The voice of the people must be respected, which will entail the Supreme Court overturning this absurd legal decision by the High Court. Otherwise, Parliament risks huge public anger if it seeks to stop Britain fully leaving the EU.
Yours etc,
Dr Felix Aubel, Vote Leave co-ordinator for west Wales, Trelech.
