A WALKING group has donated hundreds of pounds to their local mountain rescue team.

Meirionnydd Ramblers were delighted to be able to hand over a cheque for £215 to Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team (ASART) following a recent social evening.

One of their members, well known local photographer Jean Napier, gave a presentation about the old drovers roads in Meirionnydd and a buffet was provided by members on a ‘bring and share’ basis.

“We had a great evening,” said Gill Caves, footpath secretary for the Meirionnydd Group.

“It was not only very informative but we all enjoyed a relaxed evening and it was a real bonus that in addition we were able to fund-raise for such a worthy cause as the local Mountain Rescue Service”.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of ASART, Chris Dunn, team leader, said: “We are aiming to equip each of our vehicles with a defibrillator and this donation will help us achieve our goal.

“Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) can be vital in restoring the heart to a normal rhythm in the event of a cardiac arrest and cost in the region of £1,000 each.“

Gill concluded: “We are so grateful to the people who give their time voluntarily to assist walkers who get into difficulties.”
