Madam,

I would like to comment on your excellent front-page article regarding pupils crossing at dangerous roads.

I, with a couple of neighbours, attend St Anne’s Church in Penparcau, Aberystwyth, most Sundays. The cars come round the bend of the road along with lorries, and most of the drivers do not expect people to be crossing the road.

Cllr Jones-Southgate is correct. The road needs a sign coming off the roundabout and ideally a pelican crossing. Can I add on the matter of pedestrian crossing, another accident in waiting is when the buses drop off people attending the hospital.

Since the park and ride has been wound up, people have to cross the dual carriageway with no zebra crossing or any aids to cross safely.

Can I turn to a different subject. I attend St Anne’s Church, led by Rev J D Laurence. But the bottom line is as a Catholic I have no church of my faith to pray in. Not in Aberystwyth or Borth where the church also is in disrepair. Do not give up on the campaign to keep St Winifride’s in Aberystwyth and as a vibrant church.

One more point, this time regarding Marc Perry's letter. The beautiful side streets of Aberystwyth, full of charm and unique gifts to buy, must be supported so that they thrive.

Aberystwyth is an historic town and the people are caring and compassionate.

Yours etc,

Eric Payne, Aberystwyth Holiday Village, Penparcau, Aberystwyth.
