The A4212 between Trawsfynydd and Bala is closed following heavy snowfall, and North Wales Police have issued a warning to motorists across Gwynedd to avoid travel in some parts of the county.

NWP has received a number of reports of heavy snowfall and cars becoming stuck on several roads, including the A4212.

A spokesperson said: “The Gwynedd South area is experiencing a major weather event, with large amounts of snow making major and minor routes impassable. Roads between Dolgellau, Bala, Blaenau and Trawsfynydd (A494, A4212, A470) are severely affected.

“Motorists are urged to avoid travel in the area until further notice. We are aware of tens of vehicles currently trapped. The council are working as quickly as possible to clear major roads, but minor routes may not be addressed as quickly.”

District Inspector Matt Geddes added: "If you are trapped, please stay in your car and keep your mobile phone charged. Stay warm and only call our control room in an emergency, as we are aware of the situation and are working to get to stranded motorists as soon as we can."

The A4212 between Trawsfynydd and Bala closure will allow gritters to attend the scene.

North Wales police said: "We have now closed the A4212 between Bala and Trawsfynydd until gritters attend and conditions improve. Thank you for your patience."

The closure of the road was also confirmed by Gwynedd Council which has staff on site.
