A SHOCKING video has emerged showing what appears to be a family running across a railway crossing in Barmouth after the barriers had started to come down.

The footage, sent to the Cambrian News by local driving instructor John Lewis, captures what seems to be a family sprinting across the railway line in Barmouth as the barriers are seconds away from being fully closed.

The video even shows a man urging a woman and child to follow him, after they hesitate.

Mr Lewis, 45, branded those in the video ‘idiots’, adding: “I was on my way to a driving lesson when the level crossing warning lights started to show.

“As the barriers started to lower, I caught sight of a man running down the middle of Beach Road, straight over the railway, dodging the barriers.

“Not only that, but he stopped to beckon the rest of his family across - and they followed! What a great example to set your kid.”

Fortunately, nobody was hurt in the incident.

Every year hundreds of people die on British railway lines.

Although the vast majority of these fatalities are suspected suicides, dozens are caused by people trespassing on the tracks.

The incident took place at midday on Tuesday, 22 August.
