WI

MEMBERS at their meeting on Monday, 6 June, had the pleasure of a return visit from a most capable and informative speaker in Ian Tillotson. Ian has had a lifelong interest in wildlife and has travelled worldwide with his camera, recording many fascinating species. However, on this occasion his pictures and talk took a far more personal slant. Twenty-three years ago he had responded to an appeal from a young man in Ghana, who, along with others in his village, wanted to advance his education but they lacked even the most basic materials. Ian had responded to his appeal and forwarded educational materials. His interest extended over the years and he became more involved, supporting Samuel throughout his school days. Eventually he decided that he must make the effort to meet him and the basis of his talk was of this journey and meeting. Ian’s photographs provided a vivid record of the day to day village life of ordinary folk and wonderful pictures of Sammy, his wife and children. However, wildlife was not ignored and members saw many spectacular birds and animals. As always, Ian gave members an evening to remember.

At the next meeting, on Monday, 4 July, the group is welcoming a lady from Boots who will be talking about and demonstrating No 7 cosmetics.

A warm welcome is extended to all ladies of the Waun to join the WI at the community hall for this meeting at 7pm.
