I would like to give my wholehearted support to the points raised by Audrey Jones in her letter about Covid rule breakers and the way some politicians are trying to score political points.
All politicians should be banding together to make the various responses to our dire situation work, proactively encouraging their constituents to follow the rules and not continually carping on about what hasn’t worked and how they would have done it better.
We are in an unprecedented(there, I’ve said it) situation and it is quite remarkable and to be applauded, that a vaccine has been developed so quickly. However, to see my former colleagues in the NHS and other support services struggling to keep ahead of the high level of Covid infections and keep people alive is heartbreaking and could have been so different if only everyone had followed the rules.
We should never forget that as a country we will owe a huge debt of gratitude to all those on the front line and we must provide the support they will need to recover from the effects that this will have on their physical and mental health. Finally, I sincerely hope that those Covid rule-breakers and Covid deniers will never have to work under such pressure or lose someone from Covid and that in time they will come to hang their heads in shame when they realise how wrong they were and acknowledge the consequences of some of their actions.
