Anybody who contracts Covid-19 and who, by virtue of their age, gender and race, is likely to survive the disease, has great good fortune.

But we are aware that the measure of decency in an individual, as in a society is how well we look out for others.

We wear a mask in public not because it protects us from others, but because we want to protect others from our own potential to infect them: our frail, vulnerable and just plain unlucky fellows.

We should not make light of this awful virus which may well leave survivors with long-term health problems - and fortune is ever fickle.
