Up to 15cm could fall on parts of North and West Wales later this week, meteorologists have warned.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain on Thursday and Friday across North and West Wales.

The warning runs from midday on Thursday until 11.59pm on Friday, with forecasters saying the heavy rain may lead to flooding and disruption to transport.

A spokesperson for the Met Office says: “Periods of heavy rain are expected to develop across Wales and Northwest England during Thursday and Friday.

“Accumulations of 30-40mm can be expected widely, whilst areas of higher ground exposed to strong south-westerly winds are likely to see 50-80mm.

“The heaviest rainfall is expected to be across the hills and mountains of North-West Wales and Cumbria where 100-150mm of rainfall is possible by the end of Friday.”
