An Aberaeron mother is to lead 50 supporters on a ‘welly walk’ to raise money for a therapy centre which has provided support after her young daughter was diagnosed with cerebral palsy.
Sera-Jane Thomas has already smashed her fundraising target of £250 for the Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre and she is keen to raise as much money as possible to thank the centre for all the help she has been given.
Her daughter Clara Elizabeth Rogers was born on 20 February, but suffered hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, which led to a lack of oxygen to her brain.
While staff at Bronglais Hospital battled to stabilise Clara before she was transferred to Swansea, Clara was eventually diagnosed with cerebral palsy after initial fears that she may not survive.
Since then the family has attended the Bobath Centre in Cardiff which has provided a range of advice and support which Sera-Jane said was a “life changer”
She said: “Our occupational therapist first introduced us to Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre and we took Clara along with a very open mind.
“Clara was only 11 weeks old, so it was just simple things like learning to settle her, finding positions she would tolerate to play in and most of all, how to sit her comfortably in the dreaded car chair.
“Clara would literally foam at the mouth and cry hysterically from the moment she was put in it.
“We have just completed our first baby block of six weeks of Bobath therapy and it has been a life changer."
The welly walk will take place on Friday, 19 October, starting at 9.30am from Llanechaeron with the route a total of six kilometres.
