Madam,

The Labour government in Cardiff has received £1.2 billion extra in its budget, however it has cut the money sent to Gwynedd Council by £11 million.

When it comes to funding local government, Labour operates a sliding scale. Those councils with greatest number of Labour councillors receive the most money. Those councils with the least receive the least amount of money. Gwynedd Council, where Labour councillors are an endangered species (one), of course comes at the bottom the list.

Usually political parties, when seeking support from the electorate, say things like “Vote for us and we will make things better”. Labour, however, is different. They seem to be saying “Vote for us. If you don’t we will make life difficult for you”.

Only a party that has had a stranglehold on Welsh politics for nigh on a century would think that these bully-boy tactics are acceptable. They are not. They may be the norm in one-party states in the Third World, but they should not be acceptable in 21st century Wales. The sooner the Labour Party is removed from political life in Wales, the better.

Yours etc,

Chris Schoen, Penygroes.
