A WELSH music awards ceremony returning to Aberystwyth for the third year this weekend will be streamed live online for the very first time.

Y Selar — The Cellar — music awards are the annual celebration and showcasing of the best in Welsh language rock and pop, and will again take place at Aberystwyth University Students’ Union from 4pm on Saturday, 20 February.

And while tickets are still available for £15 at Siop Inc on Bridge Street and at the SU, all is not lost for those unable to attend after BBC Radio Cymru announced they are to stream the event live on their website from 8pm.

Among those in attendance will be BBC Radio 1 and Radio Cymru presenter Huw Stephens and Radio Cymru’s Lisa Gwilym.

Speaking to the Cambrian News this week, Lisa said: “This is an event for everyone in Wales and Aberystwyth is a great location for it because it is slap-bang in the middle of Wales.

“The event will be presenting a great variety of bands and musicians so if you are not a huge fan of one type of music, that’s irrelevant.”

Huw Stephens said of the awards: “The Selar Welsh music awards, this Saturday night in Aberystwyth, are a way of celebrating and showcasing that talent in one big busy night of music, friends, and the awards themselves.

“Scroll through the music nominated and you’ll hear why the Welsh language scene is so vibrant right now.

“The sheer variety of artists from solo musicians to bands and electronic composers, to hard-to-categorise projects make us very proud, and that’s why we at Radio Cymru will be broadcasting the night live online for the very first time.

“The sets themselves, and the awards given out on the night, really do make it a special occasion that we’re delighted to be showcasing”.
